H A W K S

Hawks are rarely seen. They are giant creatures that live way above the clouds. They're born there, they sleep and eat and mate there, and when they die they drift on the high air currents until their bodies dry and disintegrate. They're huge yet light, their bodies filled with gases that aid their flotation, their webbed tentacles flapping at the air if extra height is needed

If they are brought closer to the ground, the air pressure drives them mad. They can become vicious, and the Mages - and their soldiers the Krotes - use hawks as aerial transports. They can fly hundreds of miles in a day, and if properly motivated they can become wild killers in battle.
