Mysterious entities – plant or animal? – that resemble giant tumbleweed.  They roll across their victims and spike them with hooks and barbs, absorbing the flesh and carrying the bones away.  Older tumblers are adorned with the bones of dozens of long-dead people.

In DAWN, the nature of these strange things becomes more apparent, as does their importance to Noreela.
